You are the temple of God; so don’t defile your body by fornication

You are the temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in you. Representational image of Jerusalem temple.

You are the temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in you. The temple of God is holy and if anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. (1Cor. 3:16, 2Cor. 6:16-18)

Human beings are truly religious and try to find the perfect will of God in and through their esteemed life. Because God breathed His life into the nostrils of man He created, and the man became a living being. God had inculcated all the essential divine natures in man, and imparted the spirit of love and brotherhood too.

Temple is a building or a dedicated complex to worship god or gods. Many of them have now become archeological monuments of repute, where multitudes gather to worship. Though the virtues of deities differ, people worship them sacrificially for the fulfilment of their aspirations.

You are the temple of God

Temples are places that are attributed to social, cultural and personal faith and beliefs. They are under surveillance but people try to uphold the sanctification of its aura and own self. However, God says, “You are the temple of God.”

Bible acclaims the importance of worship and in the Old Testament, devotees gathered at the temple in Jerusalem. But in the New Testament, Jesus clarifies the virtue of worshipping God in ‘truth and Spirit’ every moment.

The wisest of wise, King Solomon, who built the beautiful temple in Jerusalem, confesses “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built? (1Kings.8:27)

Whereas, the Lord God says, “Heaven is My throne and earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me? Has My hand not made all these things?” However the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands. (Acts 7:48-50)

Marriage is one of the sacred, beautiful, socially and culturally ordained, institutional ceremonial, accepted universally for every religion. Here the eligible bride and bridegroom enter into a nuptial commitment to live together, fulfilling all mutual relationship faithfully.

The Holy Bible advocates marriages as a lifelong, indissoluble, monogamous sacred union of man and woman. Marriage is a perfect partnership of mutual consent, consummation, love, trust and commitment. This is regulated by the Word of God and the law and customs of the land.

But today, the vested interests manipulate the wholesomeness of holy matrimony for selfish satisfaction. The predominance of heterosexuality overpowers self-control and tempts for fornication, defiling the temple of God and ruin the holy family relationship.

Gay marriage and live-in-relationship

Gay marriage and live-in-relationship is gaining momentum and struggle to find a space in our social, cultural and religious ethics. Instead of resisting the unrighteousness people exploit relationship.

Recently, Pope Francis endorsed same-sex civil unions, while he was interviewed for a feature-length documentary Francesco.

The Bible says that, he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. But, present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. Do not be conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Rom. 12:1-2)

Almighty Lord says “I will be Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters. (2 Cor. 6:18).

God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth. (John 4:24)

Apostle Paul says, “We are sanctified by Christ Jesus, and we are called to be the saints. And we are bought at a price.” Christ Jesus, who is the hope of glory delights to dwell in us and desire to have fellowship and communion.

As we are the New Testament believers, we have the privilege to be called God’s sons and daughters. Hence we are the heirs and co-heirs with Christ Jesus. We must keep ourselves holy and must glorify the name of our Saviour Christ Jesus. We are the salt and light to this world. Let us be the imitators of Christ Jesus and His undefiled character. Remember! You are the temple of living God.
