N.B.A. Finals: How the Lakers crushed Miami Heat in Game 1

Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis against Miami Heat forward Jae Crowder during the third quarter in game one of the 2020 NBA Finals

The Los Angeles Lakers were falling short early in the game but fought back with a string of 3-pointers. Lakers made a loud statement with Wednesday’s 116-98 win over the Miami Heat to take a 1-0 series lead.

Anthony Davis had a dominant 34 points and 9 rebounds in the first finals game of his career, and LeBron James recorded 25 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists.

Davis has become the first Lakers player to tally 30+ points in the NBA Finals since Kobe Bryant’s 38 points in Game 5 of the 2010 Finals.

The Heat could not build on their early 13-point lead and were struggling with injuries. All-Star Bam Adebayo left in the third quarter with a shoulder strain, while guard Goran Dragic suffered a left foot injury before halftime. Jimmy Butler rolled his left ankle in the second quarter but remained in the game and led the Heat with 23 points

Anthony Davis and LeBron James are the first Lakers duo to each record 25+ points in the same Finals game since Kobe Bryant (33 points) and Shaquille O’Neal (29 points) in Game 2 of the 2004 NBA Finals.
