BJP wins 19 out of 28 seats
The BJP won 19 out of the total 28 seats in the Madhya Pradesh bypolls. However the Congress could secure only 8 seats.
Polling for the 28 assembly seats of the state held on November 3.
The by-elections were necessitated following the resignation of 25 MLAs, and the death of three legislators, earlier.
In March this year, 22 Congress MLAs had resigned from the state Assembly, paving the way for BJP’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan to take over as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister for the fourth time.
Counting of the votes began at 8 am and finally ended at around 3 am on Wednesday. Chouhan called the verdict a victory for the people of Madhya Pradesh. He said: “This is the victory of development and the victory of faith. It is the victory of social justice and the victory of democracy. This is the victory of the people of Madhya Pradesh. The people gave their blessings to BJP and expressed confidence in us. I pledge that there will be no let anything impact the welfare of the state.”
