In a horrific incident, a 45-year-old woman has been critically injured after four men allegedly raped her and inserted an iron rod into her private parts in the Sidhi district of Central India’s Madhya Pradesh state, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Saturday night following which the woman has been undergoing treatment in a hospital in neighbouring Rewa district, Amiliya police station in-charge Deepak Baghel said. The police detailed the four accused, he added.

State Home Minister Narottam Mishra told reporters in Bhopal, on Monday, that no culprit will be spared. A speedy trial will be conducted into the case, and the accused will be punished, he said.

According to the police official, the woman’s husband died about four years back and she was living with her two children and 40-year-old sister in a shanty on a hillock near Hardi village, about 60 km from the district headquarters.

She ran a shop from her shanty to earn her livelihood, the official said. Around 10 pm on Saturday, four men approached her and asked for water.

Initially her sister admitted her to Sidhi district hospital from where doctors referred her to Rewa, for treatment.

Inserted iron rod on private part

On Saturday night, the four men approached the woman, who lives in a shanty, after the death of her husband. The men asked for water but the woman denied having the same. But assailants barged into the shanty breaking open the makeshift bamboo wall.

The unwanted visitors not only sexually assaulted the woman, but also inserted an iron rod into her private part.

Victim woman sustained severe injuries in her private parts in the horrific incident.

The accused belong to the same village as the woman. Police have arrested all four accused including Lallu Patel and Bhailal Patel on charges of gang-raping the woman.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson KK Mishra slammed the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government for silence on incidents like Hathras, Badaun, and now at Sidhi in Madhya Pradesh.

Incidentally, Chouhan took to Twitter Monday to announce starting of a campaign ‘Samman’ to raise awareness on crimes against women.
