Police uses tear gas, water canon to control agitating Cong workers

Bhopal: Police lobbed tear gas shells and used water cannons to disperse agitating Youth Congress and NSUI workers who tried to march towards assembly demanding student union elections in Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday.

With the beginning of the budget session of state assembly, Congress workers warned to stage protest in front of assembly to press for their demands.

During the protest some police personnel & media persons were also injured when agitated workers hurled stones near state Congress office.

Police have arrested over one hundred workers including Youth Congress state president Kunal Choudhary.

"We were peacefully protesting for our demands to hold student union elections in colleges across the state but police canned the workers & used water cannons to foil peaceful agitation. They are trying to gag the democracy", Choudhary told reporters after the agitation.

He said police also arrested several workers, some of them injured in the melee.
