Congress worker commits self-immolation in Chhattisgarh
26-10-2015

Raipur: A Congress worker and representative of Congress MLA from BiIlha committed self-immolation in front of Bilha SDM’s office on Monday afternoon.

The man has suffered 94 per cent burns and has been referred to Raipur for further treatment. The incident has created tension in Bilha area and some people even pelted the SDM’s office with stones after the incident. Congress MLAs Kaushik and Amit Jogi met the victim before he was shifted to Raipur. They have demanded lodging of an FIR against Bilha SDM and his immediate removal from there.

According to sources, a case under prohibitory orders under Section 107-16 was registered against the victim, identified as Rajendra Tiwari. He had been approaching Bilha SDM Arjun Singh Sisodia for bail in the matter, as the prohibitory orders issued against him require a person to seek bail from SDM’s office.

Sisodia, however, allegedly mistreated Tiwari every time he approached him for bail and the same happened on Monday also. Tiwari then came out of Sisodia’s office and committed self-immolation right in front of the office. Before being shifted to trauma centre, he alleged that Sisodia has been demanding money for granting him bail. He further alleged that Sisodia had also threatened him that if did not pay him money he could never get the bail.

Bilha MLA Siyaram Kaushik rushed to the spot soon after getting information about the incident. Kaushik said that Tiwari was a dedicated Congress worker and was being harassed by the administration at the behest of BJP leaders.

Kaushik alleged that Arjun Singh Sisodia has been demanding money for every work that people go to him for. He said that Sisodia has been charging Rs 25,000 from every tractor and truck that transport and supply minor minerals and false cases were registered against those who do not pay him.

Later Congress MLA from Marwahi Amit Jogi too met Tiwari at the trauma centre. Jogi said that an administrative tyranny was going on in the state and Congressmen were being harassed selectively. He demanded immediate removal of Sisodia and lodging of an FIR against him.

The Tarbahar police recorded Tiwari’s statement in the presence of the tehsildar before he was shifted to Raipur in a critical condition.

In the meanwhile Bilha SDM Arjun Singh Sisodia was removed late evening. Collector Anbalagan P has confirmed Sisodia’s removal from Bilha and informed that SDM SP Vaidya has been given charge of Bilha tehsil in his place.
