Vyapam scam: CBI officer found unconscious in train

Bhopal: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer of the rank of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) being sent as a backup for Vyapam scam investigations to Madhya Pradesh was found unconscious in train.

According to the spokesperson of the Bureau in Delhi, Indrashekar Jha, posted in Delhi, was heading towards Gwalior to join the CBI team investigating Vyapam scam when he suffered a brain hemorrhage.

“He was not part of the investigation, but was being sent as backup to be put on assignment during crisis,” she said.

Jha could not disembark the train at Gwalior and moved on to Jhansi where railway staff called in for medical emergency services and referred him to hospital. He has been kept under constant observation and will be shifted to Gwalior for further treatment.

CBI conducts raids in UP, MP

Meanwhile, the CBI on Thursday raided around 40 locations in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in connection with the Vyapam scam, an official said. “Among the locations where raids were conducted are Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Rewa, Jabalpur, Lucknow and Allahabad,” the CBI official said.

The CBI has so far registered 83 FIRs and launched 12 preliminary inquiries into the Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal (Vyapam), or the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam.

The scam that involves several admission-cum-recruitment irregularities and also has over 40 deaths linked to it. (With inputs from Agencies)
