Retired army personnel arrested for leaking defence info to Pak operative
Amritsar: A retired
army personnel was arrested for allegedly working at the behest of a Pakistani
operative who asked him to get information about movement of army units in
border areas and regarding placements of radars, among other tasks.
Subedaar Saroop Singh,
who was working as a spy, was arrested on Tuesday and documents containing
incriminating information regarding movements of vital armed units and brigades
were seized from him, police said.
Singh, a resident of
village Ghasel falling in the jurisdiction of Dinanagar in Gurdaspur district,
has been booked under various sections of Official Secrets Act and the IPC,
found out that Singh, who retired from 37th Rashtriya Rifles of Army, was
engaged by a Pakistani operative on the pretext of disbursements of
scholarships to the wards of army personnel transferred to different units from
Kashmir valley, police said.
Singh was tasked to
find about movement of army units in border areas, construction of new bunkers
along border, clicking photographs of army vehicles along with their formation
signs, army exercises and trainings in the area and to get information
regarding placements of radars and other tactical equipment in border areas,
