Blast in Neemuch kills couple, explosives suspected

Neemuch: A man and his wife were killed in an explosion that took place at a house in Piparwa village, around 80km from here in the wee hours of Saturday. The intensity of the blast indicated that explosives were stored in the house, official sources said.

The explosion was heard by the villagers at 1.30am at the house of one Uday Lal (42), Singoli police said, adding the blast site was in ruins. Uday’s head was found at least 15 ft away from the house. His wife Narmada Bai (23) was also killed in the blast, they said.

Uday was a native of Rajasthan and was staying with his second wife Narmada for the last three months. Initially, police believed that it was a stove explosion. But the intensity of the blast suggests that the couple might have stored explosive substance, Neemuch Collector Nandkumar said.

A 15-member team of bomb disposal squad and forensics experts has been dispatched to the spot to ascertain the nature of the blast.  Police have cordoned off the area to prevent people from tampering with the evidence.

The Neemuch administration was already on its toes after the alert sounded by the chief minister following Petlawad blast.
