Madhya Pradesh schoolgirl attacked with acid, stabbed
Bhopal: A 20-year-old
schoolgirl was attacked with acid and stabbed by her cousin in Balaghat
district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday afternoon. The accused, had consumed
several sleeping pills, before attacking the girl, said police. Both are said
to be in critical condition.
The incident took place
near Akashwani centre in Balaghat where the accused aged 25 years, waylaid and
threw acid on her face. As she tried to
run for her life, the accused chased her and inflicted multiple stab injuries
on her abdomen.
“Had he not been
overpowered by locals residents he would have stabbed the girl to death,” said
DC Sagar, inspector general Balaghat range. During interrogation he told police
that he had consumed over 20 sleeping pills.
“Doctors had his
stomach washed and referred him to Nagpur for further treatment,” IG said.
The victim is a
resident of Mandla district and was undergoing her school education by living
in a hostel at Balaghat while the accused was a resident of Seoni district.
Her hostel warden told
police that she was being stalked and harassed by the accused for the last many
days and the matter was informed to her parents also.
Police have registered
a case of attempt to murder against the accused and initially suspect it as a
case of one sided love affair.
