Visually challenged collector suffers injury, assistant dies, as truck rams into his car

BHOPAL: A rashly driven truck rammed into the car in which visually challenged collector of Umaria district in Madhya Pradesh KG Tiwari and his assistant were travelling. While the assistant has died, Tiwari along with is driver have suffered serious injuries. They have been referred to Jabalpur for treatment late on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident took place near Manpur on the outskirts of Bandhavgarh National Park, situated at a distance of 10 kilometres from Umaria district headquarters.

“His assistant Vivek Pandey died while being taken to Jabalpur. Driver Seshmani has sustained serious injuries, the collector has also sustained injuries but is out of danger,” SP Umaria, CS Solanki said.

“The collector has not sustained any major external injury, his X-ray was conducted and it also showed no injuries but he is sent to Jabalpur to ensure further medical check up,” Solanki added.

Krishna Gopal Tiwari attended public hearing at his office and at around 2 pm he was heading towards Manpur when his vehicle was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction.

“The driver of the truck has been arrested from the spot and investigations are underway,” Solanki said.

The collector being visually impaired was provided with an assistant Vivek Pandey by the state administration. Pandey who died in this accident was a data entry operator in the social justice department.
