Elephants trample two women in Korba, Ambikapur districts
RAIPUR: In yet another incident, two tribal women were trampled to death by elephants in Ambikapur and Korba districts in Chhattisgarh on Friday.
Increasing number of tusker attacks might have raised concern among forest officials but apart from compensation to victims, the state government has hardly shown interest towards tackling the tusker menace.
22-year-old Sukhmania Korwa who belonged to particularly Primitive Tribal Groups was attacked when she went to weekly market in Ambikapur's Batauli region along with her husband and her two-year-old child.
When the elephant attacked on her suddenly, she threw away the kid into the bushes which saved his life but the woman was trampled to death on the spot. The kid has sustained bruises in the incident.
In another incident 65-year-old Jol Bai was killed in elephant attack at Pidiya village of Korba district when she had gone to forests to collect forest produce.
This was the fourth death due to elephant attack in northern Chhattisgarh in four days. Two days ago, two men were trampled to death in Korba district.
