Woman dies as MPBSE boundary wall caves-in
BHOPAL: A married woman walking along Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) boundary wall, died after a portion of it came crashing down on her on Monday.
The victim, Lalita Patil, 25, working at a mall in MP Nagar, rushed out of the working place and was in a hurry to reach her home at Panchsheel Nagar. But before she could cross over to other side of the road, the 8-feet high wall came on her. Trapped under the debris, she started screaming. Passers-by tried to save the mother of 5-year-old kid, but it was too late. She died on the spot.
A passenger waiting for a bus said, "Almost 50-feet long collapsed on her." "She had no time to realize that the wall was falling on her," said Ankit Upadhyay, another passenger said. Collapsed wall is part of the same wall, which had collapsed three days ago.
MP Nagar SHO Brijesh Bhargawa said they have received a call about the incident around 5 pm and their team immediately rushed to the spot. He said identity of the victim was established from ATM card. Her husband Chandrashekhar Patil owns a shop in MP Nagar.
Cops were able to get Lalita out, after removing the debris almost after two hours with the help of JCB machine.
As the word about the tragedy spread, angry crowd gather near the site of accident. "This is crime on part of officials. When they knew that the wall was weak, they should have repaired it immediately. This is beginning of monsoon and such incident took place. I shudder to think what would happen during peak monsoon," said Vinay Sisodia, a bank employee.
MPPEB public relations officer SK Chourasia said the wall was constructed almost 40 years ago. "Height of the wall was raised two years ago. An inquiry committee has been formed to probe the matter," MPBSE has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to family of victim, he added.
