Oppn women MLAs to file complaint against UDF MLAs
Thiruvananthapuram: Five women
legislators belonging to the Opposition LDF have decided to file a complaint
with the police against some of the UDF MLAs for alleged sexual harassment
during the bedlam which rocked the Kerala Assembly on budget day.
LDF MLAs – KK Lathika, Jameela
Prakasham, KS Saleekha, Geetha Gopi and ES Bijimol – will also lodge a
complaint with the Central and State Women's Commissions and the State Governor
in this regard.
The women legislators decided to take
legal recourse in the wake of the Speaker taking action against the LDF MLAs
alone for the ruckus. They alleged that UDF MLAs -- K Sivadasan Nair, M.A.
Wahid, AT George, Dominic Presentation and Shibu Baby John -- insulted
womanhood in the Assembly. They will seek maximum punishment for the
legislators on charges of sexual offences.
The complaint will have a mention against
the Speaker also. The complainants alleged that despite filing a complaint with
him, the Speaker did not behave responsibly.
The police will have to take case
against the UDF MLAs as it is mandatory to register FIR if women file
complaints on charges of sexual harassment.
