Congress will gherao Chhattisgarh assembly on Monday
RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh Congress
would 'gherao' the state assembly on Monday to protest against the Raman Singh
led BJP government's failure in fulfilling its promises of higher MSP for paddy
and job creation under MNREGA.
The gheroa, would be also mark the
culmination of the Kisan Mazdoor Nyay Yatra', which was started by the party
from Baloda Bazar on March 11. The Congress is also demanding a CBI probe into
the recent civil supply scam in the state.
According to Congress spokesperson
their main demands include Rs 2100 support price for paddy besides Rs 300 bonus
on it, CBI probe into the civil supply scam and more job creations under
MNREGA. State Congress President, Bhupesh Baghel, said the BJP government had
made all these promises to the people before election but had failed to fulfil
them after coming to power.
Accusing the government of
"cheating" the people, Baghel said anger is brewing among farmers and
the common man due to BJP's "deceit". He said instead of paying
higher MSPs and creating more jobs, the government had altered its procurement
policy and closed down works under MNREGA causing immense hardships to farmers
Alleging that corruption is rampant
in the state, Baghel said the recent scam in the food department had exposed
the BJP's false claims of providing a clean administration. He said only a CBI
inquiry could reveal the truth and expose the real culprits of the scam.
