Youth arrested for harassing school girl

BHOPAL: A 16-year-old girl stopped going to school due to harassment by a youth. For months, she didn't venture out. She finally stepped out on Friday to appear in an exam, but the youth stalked her till school and harassed her.

The girl ran inside and appeared for the exam. She later approached the Bajaria police, who registered a case against the youth.

Student of class 9, the girl is a resident of Shankaracharya Nagar. Police said the accused, Sonu alias Vikas Thakur, 27, is stalking the girl for five years. He would live in the same locality, but shifted to Nariyalkheda sometime back.

Despite moving to different neighbourhood, he would follow the girl every day on her way to school and harass her. The complainant stated in her FIR he would ask for her mobile number and force her to come with him for a date.

The girl would not reply to his comments, but the youth continued to torture her. He even caught her hands and sexually harassed her on few occasions.

The perturbed girl stopped going to school since January. But the youth again harassed her when she stepped out of house to appear in the exam.

The police said girl went home after exam, narrated the incident to her mother and came to lodge an FIR. She kept mum all these months as she was afraid her parents would scold her, police said.

Accused Sonu, a driver, has been arrested. Police said he has been booked for sexual harassment and under sections of POCSO as girl is a minor, police said.
