59 Christians reconverted to Hindu religion in Kerala
KOTTAYAM: As many as 59 persons, most of them
belonging to Christian families, in Kerala’s Kottayam district were reconverted
to Hindu religion under the initiative of Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Christmas

Hindu Parishad, were held at Sree Krishna Swamy Temple at Thirunakkara here and

As many as 17 persons from 11 families in Kumarakom,
Vechoor and Manarkad attended the ceremony in Kottayam while 42 persons were
reconverted at Puthiyakavu Devi temple in Ponkunnam. Similar functions are
being held at various places.
On Wednesday, 11 persons had embraced Hindu religion
near Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district in yet another case of conversion since
the last week in the state. A batch of 30 persons belonging to eight families
of Scheduled Caste Christians had re-converted in the district on December 21.
The reconversion was held amid the controversies over
the 'Ghar Wapsi' programme being conducted by the VHP across the country. The
Home Minister had ordered a probe into the matter.
Following this, the
Chief Minister had said that no forcible conversion had happened in the state.
He maintained that the government would interfere if it is necessary.
