After Maoist attack, Kerala govt effects large scale reshuffle in top police posts
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of Maoist attacks on
Thunderbolt in Wayanad on Sunday a large scale reshuffle has been effected in
the top police posts in Kerala.
The SPs of Palakkad and Malappuram have been
transferred and S Manju Nath and Debesh Kumar have been appointed as SP of
Palakkad and Malappuram districts respectively. Both were posted was AIGs
Manjunath has acquired special training to combat
Maoists. The outgoing SPs have not been given posts so far.
Kerala police on Monday stepped up search for
suspected Maoists who had fled to the forests after exchanging fire with the
police in Wayanad district. Kannur DIG Dinendra Kashyap, who is overlooking the
raids, said that an eight-member Maoist group attacked the Thunderbolts on
“We have information about the group's movement,” the
top cop said, adding that the police found bullets, clothes and caps left by
the Maoists in the forest.
Stating that the police and specially-trained
commandos are fully prepared to face the threat posed by the ultras, state Home
Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the situation in Wayanad, after the incident
which took place on Sunday, was totally under control.
