Madhya Pradesh’ 92,000 anganwadi centres will be made more attractive
BHOPAL: A special 2-month drive will be launched to
make over 92,000 anganwadis better, more attractive and strengthened. Women and
Child Development Minister Maya Singh informed that the drive would be
conducted from December 20, 2014 to February 20, 2015.
Maya Singh informed that need is being felt to provide
better atmosphere for children and lactating mothers at anganwadi centres.
Therefore, the department has decided to conduct this special drive.
During the drive, improvements will be undertaken in
existing aganawadis wherever necessary. For this, funds will be mobilized at
local level from government and private sources. The department will provide
funds as per requirement if proposals are received.
In the places where anganwadi centres are run in
private buildings and additional rooms are available in government schools then
anganwadi should be transferred there. Where government schools are not
available, a sum of Rs. 3000 per month in urban area and Rs. 750 per month in
rural area will be provided to rent a building for anganwadi which has clean
atmosphere and adequate space for sitting children.

Singh has said in directives sent to departmental field staff that cooperation
should be sought from local body, companies and donors where buildings of
anganwadis are to be constructed and developed. She also directed to develop a
kitchen garden there to grow vegetables.
Directives have been given to display information
about whitewashing and other information about concerning centre on
notice-board. Public Health Engineering Department has been directed to repair
dysfunctional handpumps in aganwadis and install new ones in the unserviced
It has been directed to ensure sanitation in anganwadis,
arrange water filter and provide rugs for sitting. The places where new
buildings of anganwadis have been constructed, they should be got inaugurated
by local MP or MLA.
