Missing Chhattisgarh girl sold for Rs 35K rescued in Delhi, trafficker held
RAIPUR: In a major breakthrough, Chhattisgarh police
team in collaboration with Delhi-based NGO Shakti Vahini, traced an 18-year-old
girl who went missing in 2006. She was rescued from a residence at North Delhi’s
model town area on Wednesday evening. The girl was abducted from a community
fair at Jashpur by one Poonam and her husband Sanjay who runs Poonam placement
agency in Delhi.
Prima facie proceedings show that the girl was sold
for Rs 35,000 to the family to work as domestic help for a year and she has
alleged of getting assaulted and beaten up by Poonam and husband. Police late
on Wednesday arrested Poonam and her husband from Jashpur.
“With this special campaign going on in Chhattisgarh,
preliminary reports clearly show that there might be many more such girls
getting assaulted whose missing reports haven’t been lodged. As a member of an NGO,
I suggest special panchayat to be conducted wherein people report about their
missing children, which should be forwarded to police station followed by an
FIR," said Rishi Kant, Shakti Vahini.
