ACB unearths unaccounted wealth worth Rs 5-crore from WRD SDO 18-10-2014
RAIPUR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths on Friday
morning raided the residence, crusher plant and office of sub divisional
officer, Water Resource department, Rajesh Kumar Gupta in Rajnandgaon district
of Chhattisgarh and unearthed unaccounted wealth to the tune of Rs 5 crore,
including Rs 31-lakh in cash and jewellery.
According to officials, preliminary inquiry has
revealed that the SDO has multiple assets, mines and residences registered
under his and his family members' name, which is disproportionate to the known
sources of income. During the raid, officials seized several incriminating
documents indicating that Gupta owned one house, two plots, and crusher plant
in Rajnandgaon and agriculture land in district Balod.
Officials also seized Rs 31 lakh cash and documents
indicating that the suspect had 18 bank accounts, LIC and mutual funds, Kisan
Vikas Patra besides some jewellery. The SDO reportedly has Rs 80-lakh cash
deposits in his bank accounts.
Officials said they were still gathering more
information about Gupta’s assets and sources of his unaccounted wealth.
Gupta reportedly joined service in 1977 and since then
has been posted in Jagdalpur, Bijapur, Balod, Durg, Pakhanjur, Dongargarh and
Rajnandgaon. He had been promoted in 2011 in Dongargarh. Presently, he was
posted in Sahaspur Lohara. He has been booked under various acts for possessing
disproportionate wealth to his known sources of income. |
