Income Tax sleuths raid 25 business establishments, residences in Chhattisgarh, MP
RAIPUR: The Income tax officials on Thursday raided
nearly 25 premises of several business groups across Chhattisgarh and Madhya
Pradesh. A senior official of Income Tax department said that searches were
initiated from Jabalpur and covered entire MP and Chhattisgarh states. While 10
business premises and residences were raided in Chhattisgarh, about 15
locations were raided in MP.
Giving details about the raid, officials said 7
premises in Bilaspur, one each in Rajim, Ambikapur and Raipur were covered in
Chhattisgarh. Officials said most these business houses are linked and have
common business interests.
According to officials raids were conducted at
Jagdamba Constructions in Raipur, owned by Shankar Agarwal, in Bilaspur at a
Soyabean extraction and sponge iron plant and three residences and offices
owned by Santosh Singhania, in Rajim at Jewellery shops owned by Ashish and
Ashok Bothra and in Ambikapur at the office and residence premises of Vijay
The raids are being carried out by almost 150
personnel of IT department of MP and Chhattisgarh. The operation commenced at 9
AM and was underway till the filing of the report.
According to officials, the search and seizure
operations had led to the recovery of several incriminating documents, which
have been seized and sealed. Cash of nearly Rs one crore had been also seized
and more seizures were likely.
