Pakistan army fires at Indian positions in Kashmir

JAMMU: The Pakistan Army fired at Indian positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir Sunday, violating a 2003 ceasefire, a defence official said. “Pakistan army violated ceasefire in Mendhar sector of the LoC in Poonch district. Firing lasted for 30 minutes from 8 am to 8.30 am,” defence spokesman Col Manish Mehta told IANS.

The “unprovoked firing started by Pakistan Army was effectively and appropriately responded” to, he said, adding that the Pakistani troops used automatic weapons and mortars. No casualties were reported, the spokesman added.

On Saturday, Pakistan Rangers used mortars to target Indian positions on the international border in RS Pura sector of Jammu district. Pakistan has been violating the truce on both the LoC and the international border in Kashmir, the northern third of which is controlled by Islamabad.
