Dalit woman dragged out of house, gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: A dalit woman, 23, was dragged out of her farmhouse and gang raped by five people in Gunga village on the outskirts of the state capital on Friday night. The rape survivor, who works as labourer, was sleeping with her two children in the farmhouse, when the accused gagged and dragged her to the fields.

A case was registered at Gunga police station on Saturday. Police said three of the five accused have been taken into custody while two others are on the run.

According to police, the survivor resides with her husband at a farmhouse in Dhamarra where her husband operates a tractor in the agriculture field.

At the time of the incident, she was asleep with her two daughters while her husband had gone to a nearby village. The accused were identified as Jagdish, Mushtaq, Bablu, Sonu and Manoj all aged between 19 to 25 years and residents of Dhamarra village.

Accused fled when they realised that her husband was returning on the tractor. Before leaving, they threatened the woman of dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to anyone, but she told her husband about it.

Next day the couple went to police station and got a case registered against the accused. Police said those arrested include Jagdish, Sonu and Manoj while a hunt has been launched to nab the remaining two.
