Man force-feeds poison to four children in Madhya Pradesh, two dead

BHOPAL: Frustrated with their crying for dead mother, a man force-fed rat poison to his four minor children before consuming it himself to commit suicide in Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh.

Two children died on the spot, while two others and the man, Ashok Ahirwar, 35, have been referred to Bhopal on Saturday morning. The incident took place in Sironj area of Vidisha.

The deceased have been identified as Akash, 11 and Shakshi, 6. Sonam, 14 and Shivani, 10 are said to be in a critical condition. Condition of their father has improved after treatment, said police.

Superintendent of police (SP) Siddhartha Chaudhary said Ashok was reeling under depression since his wife died of a medical complication a month ago. On Friday night when Ashok found his children wailing for their mother, he poisoned them.

After consuming poison, Ashok called his brother and informed the matter. His brother took all of them to the hospital directly. Two children were declared brought dead. Two others were referred to Bhopal, said the SP. A first information report (FIR) has been registered.

Ahirwar told police in his statement that he was unable to raise his children.
