Chhattisgarh assistant engineer amasses Rs 7 crore, Patwari 3 crore
RAIPUR: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday raided
the residence of Assistant Engineer of Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board
(CSEB) in Raipur and a Patwari in Bilaspur and unearthed unaccounted wealth of
crores of rupees.
According to officials, raids were conducted simultaneously
at the residence and the farmhouse, located in VIP Estate, Ashoka Rattan,
Raipur, and Pirda village respectively, of the Assistant Engineer, Ajay Kumar
Gupta. Preliminary investigations have pegged his unaccounted wealth to be over
During the raid officials seized several incriminating
documents indicating that Gupta owned two flats in Raipur, three houses, one
each in Durg, Village Pirda and Raipur, three residential plots, one each in
Raipur, Navapara and Dharmapura and agricultural land of 1.5 acres in Mandir
Officials also seized Rs 52,000 in cash and documents
indicating that the suspect had three bank accounts and lockers, which have
been sealed and are likely to be scrutinised soon. Besides, documents
indicating foreign travels by Gupta and his family members were also recovered
and they were being scrutinised.
Officials said some quantities of gold and silver
jewellery have also been seized and the same were being evaluated. Some foreign
currency was also seized during the raids.
Gupta reportedly joined service in 1991 and since then
has been posted in Bilaspur, Bastar and Raipur. For the last two years, he was
posted at Mana, Raipur. He has been booked under various acts for possessing
disproportionate wealth to his known sources of income.
Meanwhile in another raid in Bilaspur, ACB officials
have booked a patwari, Vinod Tamboli, for possessing disproportionate wealth.
During raids at the Patwari’s farmhouse, ACB officials have recovered Rs 20
lakh in cash. Officials said his
unaccounted wealth is estimated to be to the tune of Rs 3-crore.
