Two minor girls raped by neighbours in Bemetara district of Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: Two minor girls were allegedly raped by their neighbours in Bemetara district of Chhattisgarh. In the first incident, a 16-year-old girl, a resident of Dhar village was raped by her neighbour, Vikram Joshi.

The Bemetara district police have launched a massive hunt for the rapist and his wife, an Anganwadi worker, for allegedly raping and torturing the minor girl.

The girl, who returned home after a harrowing time for over two and half months, revealed the tale of torture to her mother, who lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday evening.

According to the girl, her neighbour, Vikram Joshi, allegedly raped her on June 28 when she had gone out to relieve herself.

She told the police that subsequently Vikram forcibly brought her to his house and confided about the rape with his wife, Meneka, an Anganwadi worker. Fearing that the girl would divulge, Meneka suggested Vikram to take her to Bhopal on the pretext of marrying her.

In Bhopal, Vikram, confined the girl at a rented apartment and raped her repeatedly during the span of the two and half months. The girl was reportedly also tortured and her body bore several injury marks.

According to police officials, while Vikram was away, Meneka tried to mislead the police by accusing the girl of seducing her husband for eloping with her. She also lodged a complaint with for her ‘missing’ husband.

Police officials said, Vikram returned to his house in Dhar village on Friday and allowed the girl to go to her house after threatening her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the rape. The girl, who was convinced that Vikram would not marry her now, informed her mother, who took her to the police station and lodged a complaint for rape.

Both Vikram and Meneka are reportedly absconding and cases under section 363, 366, 376 and 34 of the IPC have been registered against them.

Meanwhile, in another incident of a similar nature in Bemetara district, another minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a 35-year-old man, Kanhiya Satnami in Jhanjhadi village. The girl was allegedly kidnapped by the suspect five days ago when she had gone out to relieve herself.
