Delhi cop booked on charges of molesting gang-rape survivor

NEW DELHI: A former Delhi Police SHO, now posted in security wing at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, has been booked on the charges of molesting a gang-rape survivor in Karawal Nagar area of northeast Delhi, police said on Friday.

Raman Jha, who was earlier a station house officer (SHO) of Karawal Nagar police station, has been booked at the same station. According to police, an FIR for molestation was registered only after the victim recently approached the Delhi Police commissioner and gave her complaint in writing to him.

Police said that in her complaint, the victim has said she had registered a case of gang rape on June 6 at Karawal Nagar police station.

“In her complaint, she had named three people in connection with the case. She also alleged that during the investigation of this case, she approached the then SHO Jha and sought his help. The victim also alleged that the accused SHO gave her a soft drink laced with sedative and thereafter, he allegedly molested her and later, he also sent obscene messages on her phone,” said a senior police official.

The official also said, “Jha, who is now posted in security at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, has been booked under appropriate sections of the IPC and ACP is investigating the case.” He added that they are investigating the allegations of the gang-rape victim and will be interrogating Jha soon.
