Chhattisgarh to build one lakh toilets in three months
RAIPUR: About one lakh domestic toilets will be
constructed in Chhattisgarh and tap connections will be given to 87,400 houses
during the next three months. Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has
prepared an action plan for it.
In view of sanitation in villages, Chief Minister
Raman Singh had directed the Public Health Engineering Department to prepare
action plan for the next three months for construction of domestic toilets.
PHED secretary Ganesh Shankar Mishra, through video
conferencing held meeting of collectors and officers of the department in all
districts in this respect on Saturday. In the meeting Mishra said that the
department had prepared three-month action plan, in which a target for
construction of 99,450 concrete toilets in houses and to give tap connection to
87,400 houses has been made. He instructed officers to implement the action
plan promptly. He said, on the instructions of central government, the state
government has decided to observe national cleanliness awareness week in
Chhattisgarh from September 26 to October 2 next.
The chief minister, through video conferencing last
week had directed all divisional commissioners and collectors to make
preparations soon for the implementation of the priorities declared by Prime
Minister Narendra Modi in Chhattisgarh. He had also directed to speed up
construction of domestic toilets in villages and implementation of Nal-Jal
Yojana for supply of pure drinking water. In this line, the PHED secretary has
given necessary guidelines to collectors and chief engineers, superintending
engineers and executive engineers of his department on the proposed action
He told the officers that in the national cleanliness
awareness week, wide arrangement for bringing awareness about cleanliness would
be made by linking ministers, members of parliament and MLAs in this campaign.
In the gram sabhas to be organised on the occasion of
Gandhi Jayanti, proposals would be passed for construction of toilets in all
houses of each village through Gram Panchayats. Besides, in the houses, where
toilets have been constructed, pledge will be taken for use of them.
