Frighten criminals, not common, weaker people, Gaur tells police
BHOPAL: Home and Jail Minister Babulal Gaur has given
strict instruction to police personnel not to frighten people showing their
uniform. Hearing a complaint at his residence here on Thursday about police
personnel’s harassment of conductor of a low-floor bus of Bhopal city transport
bus last night, Gaur sought complete information about the incident.
The conductor Mahendra Kumar Sen informed the minister
that in bus number SR-4, he asked travelling police personnel to take ticket
near Depot Crossing at about 8 pm. On this, the police personnel felled him on
the ground and tried to beat him up.
After the incident, the conductor and police personnel
reached the TT Nagar police station, where a compromise was made between them.
The guilty police personnel apologised to the conductor who forgave them.
Describing the apology as inadequate, Gaur directed SP South Anshuman Singh to
conduct a thorough enquiry into the incident and ensure strict disciplinary
action against the police personnel concerned.
The minister said that police personnel’s behaviour
should be polite. They should frighten criminals and not common and weaker
section people. It was the duty of the conductor to demand amount for bus
ticket and responsibility of the police personnel to purchase the ticket.
It is the commitment of the conductor that he
discharged his duties to the extent of being misbehaved with. Duty of the
police personnel is to protect people, which they forgot. Strict action should
be taken against guilty police personnel for misuse of uniform.
SP Singh informed that it has been found in
preliminary enquiry that 2 of the 4 police personnel concerned are of Railway
Police, Indore and 2 of Bhopal. A letter is being sent to Indore SP to initiate
disciplinary action against concerning police personnel of Indore. Action will
be taken soon against the guilty after completing enquiry soon.
