SC, ST farmers get additional grant for electrification of irrigation pumps

RAIPUR: Three special development authorities working for the socio-economic development of scheduled caste and scheduled tribe in Chhattisgarh have been providing additional grant for the electrification of unfeasible irrigation pumps of farmers of these categories.

During the current financial year 2014-15, these authorities have sanctioned Rs 8.23 crore to 1,148 farmers for this purpose. State government officers here on Sunday said that these authorities have so far been sanctioned Rs 62.46 crore additional grant amount to 8,322 farmers for the electrification of unfeasible irrigation pumps. Out of them, electric connection has been given to 6,883 farmers for irrigation pumps.

As a result, the farmers have been getting good irrigation facility in their fields for Rabi crops after cultivation of Kharif crops. Officers said that the state government has been providing grant worth Rs 75,000 per pump for the electrification of irrigation pumps of farmers. If it is not possible to bring electric line to the field to give electric connection to irrigation pumps with this grant amount, such pumps have been classified as unfeasible pump. Hence, considering them as unfeasible pumps, these authorities have decided to give additional grant amount for them.

This additional amount has been sanctioned in different meetings of Scheduled Caste Development Authority, Sarguja and Uttar Kshetra Aadivasi Vikas Pradhikaran and Bastar Evam Dakshin Kshetra Aadivasi Vikash Pradhikaran, constituted and operated under the chairmanship of chief minister Dr Raman Singh.

During the current financial year, the Scheduled Caste Development Authority has sanctioned Rs 2.16 crore for 280 irrigation pumps, Sarguja and Uttar Kshetra Aadivasi Vikas Pradhikaran Rs 1.78 crore for 300 irrigation pumps and Bastar Evam Dakshin Kshetra Aadivasi Vikash Pradhikaran has sanctioned Rs 4.30 crore for electrification of 568 unfeasible irrigation pumps.

According to the officers, so far, the Scheduled Caste Development Authority has sanctioned Rs 22.53 crore for 3,387 unfeasible irrigation pumps under their jurisdiction; Sarguja and Uttar Kshetra Aadivasi Vikas Pradhikaran Rs 7.88 crore for 1,605 irrigation pumps and Bastar Evam Dakshin Kshetra Aadivasi Vikash Pradhikaran has sanctioned Rs 32 crore for electrification of 3,330 pumps.
