‘Needs of every class will be included in Greater Raipur transportation plan’
RAIPUR: Needs of every class will be included in the extensive
transportation plan for Greater Raipur Region, said housing and environment
secretary Sanjay Shukla.
Shukla stressed on preparation of a transportation plan,
favourable for the coming 50 years for Raipur and nearby urban areas, according
to the intention of the state government and keeping in mind the future needs.
He, terming the development of accessible transportation
arrangement along with the development and extension of Raipur a big challenge,
said to work on an extensive plan.
Addressing a one-day workshop on “Regional Mobility Plan for
Greater Raipur Region,” Shukla said that public transportation could prove its
significance only when it fulfils the needs of every group. He gave emphasis on
formation of a core committee for the early preparation of transportation plan.
In the workshop, jointly organised by the Naya Raipur
Development Authority and Lee Associate Asia, NRDA vice chairman SS Bajaj said
that work is on in the direction of promoting cheap, easy and clean public
transportation in Naya Raipur. He said that along with Raipur, large number of
people from the nearby areas, including Bhilai and Durg, arrive in the city.
Looking to that perspective, a plan is being prepared to speed up work on the
all-round action plan. After preparation of the plan, it would be implemented
in a phased manner. Participation of municipal corporation, municipality, nagar
panchayat, government departments and other social organisations is important
in the preparation of a useful regional mobility plan for the greater Raipur
area, he added.
Bajaj said that the advisors, looking to the problems of
transportation, road accidents, parking and security of other vehicles like
cycle and rickshaw, would conduct survey and study for the preparation of
regional mobility plan. Under the study, survey, study and analysis of social
economic development, present land use and present situation of transport and
problems of greater Raipur area would be done, he added.
The advisors will do scientific study and analysis through
modern scientific system with the aid of computer software. Through which, plan
would be prepared for development of such 15 important traffic squares in the
greater Raipur region, which are problematic as far as transportation is
concerned. The advisors will give suggestion regarding institutional arrangement
for strategy for easy transportation in greater Raipur region and for its
The total area of Greater Raipur Region is 5155 square kms, in
which, besides Durg-Bhilai and 19 urban areas coming under the effective limit
of Raipur-Naya Raipur, 900 villages are included.
