One-and-half-year old baby raped in Chhattisgarh village, two held
KANKER: A one-and-half-year-old child was allegedly raped by a
man in Chilhati village, under Korar police station in the naxal-affected
Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday late night. The accused has
Sub Divisional Officer Police (SDOP) Veerendra Sharma said on
Friday that the child, daughter of a farmer had reached Chilhati from Dudhawa
village to participate in a marriage function along with her mother.
The accused, identified as Gopal Churendra (23), resident of
Chilhait village, had also reached to participate in the marriage function
on Thursday night. During the marriage function, he took the baby along
with him on the pretext of getting some sweets. Gopal was accompanied by

The accused duo then took the baby to an isolated place near to
the wedding venue where Gopal sexually exploited the child while Vasudev helped
him in the sordid act, the SHO said.
After committing the heinous crime, they fled from the spot
leaving the little girl bleeding at the spot.
Unable to trace the baby girl for a long time, the panicked
parents and villagers launched a search for her. On finding the badly injured
girl, the parents immediately rushed her to a local hospital. The condition of
girl is stable but she has been referred to Raipur for better treatment, the
The villagers caught hold of the accused duo and handed over
them to police. Based on the complaint of the child’s parents, a case has been
registered and the accused duo have been arrested and them booked under
Sections 363, 366, 373 of Indian Penal Code and section 3, 4 of Protection of
Children From Sexual Offences Act 2012.
