City under grip of jaundice, other contagious diseases

RAIPUR: Even after getting complaints of the spread of contagious diseases like jaundice from various parts of the state capital, including DD Nagar, Kankalipara, Brahmanpara, Baijnathpara, Telibandha, Shailendra Nagar and Panadri, the Municipal Corporation administration has not been taking any effective action. In fact, dirt and filth have accumulated in wards and the residents are under the grip of various diseases.

With the advent of summer season, spread of jaundice has been reported from various locality of the city, including Kankalipara, Brahmanpara and Baijnathpara. In Katora Talab and Shailendra Nagar many people, including the corporator of the area are under the grip of jaundice and were admitted in hospitals. Now, reports about jaundice patients have been coming from Telibandha, Pandari and DD Nagar. People are afflicted from other diseases in many other localities of the city.

It has been said that because of the spread of jaundice and other contagious diseases in the city, corporation commissioner Avanish Kumar Sharan held a meeting of all the zone commissioners at Shaheed Smarak School in zone-2 on Wednesday. In the meeting, Sharan collected information about the cleaning of all wards, drinking water supply, streetlight management etc and issued necessary guidelines to them.

In the presence of additional commissioner of the corporation Dr JR Soni, Sharan said that all zonal commissioners, along with executive engineers, zone health officers, general managers of cleaning contract company, should visit wards every day from 6 to 8 in the morning and see the cleaning, drinking water and electricity arrangement there. Any mismanagement should be removed soon. Sharan instructed to clean up all small and big nullahs before the rainy season.

Health camp at Ramsagarpara

The Municipal Corporation administration, by holding health camp at Ramsagarpara ward, has done health check up of 50 people. In the camp, blood samples of three people tested, medicines distributed to people afflicted from cold, cough, fever and other diseases. The health department team has distributed 4,000 chlorin tablets and ORS packets in houses.

Rs 5,000 fine recovered

The Municipal Corporation zone 4, on the public complaints, inspected Nehru Nagar area and on finding filth and dirt and for blocking roads, has recovered Rs 5,000 fine from 10 handcarts and three hotels. The shopkeepers were instructed to maintain regular cleanliness.

Jaundice yet to be controlled

Meanwhile, in Durg district, on the contrary to the claims of the health department and Municipal Corporation, deadly and contagious diseases like jaundice are yet to be controlled. Most of the wards of the city have been under the grip of jaundice since last two months. Jaundice has claimed a foetus on Monday, where as the condition of the woman is stated to be critical.  Jaundice has spread in Kasaridih, Padmanabhpur, Kelabadi, Subhash Nagar etc under the municipal corporation limits since last two months. So far, eight deaths have been reported .
