Take immediate action against provocative speakers: EC

RAIPUR: The election commission has issued instructions to the chief electoral officers of all the states to take immediate legal action against star campaigners and leaders who deliver provocative speeches in violation to the model code of conduct.

The commission said that it was necessary to maintain law and order for conducting peaceful election. The commission time-to-time has issued guidelines in this regard. However, the commission has observed that several star campaigners and leaders of political parties have been giving provocative speeches.

The commission said that they should immediately interfere in such issues and take legal action against the person concerned without any lapse of time.

The commission said that it would be responsibility of the district electoral officers and the superintendents of police that they should register case against those deliver provocative speeches. On getting factual evidence, it should be mentioned in the FIR. It should also be brought into the information of the chief electoral officer.

While giving permission for rally and meetings, the officers should enclose the copy of the model code of conduct. Instruction should also be given that violation of it would invite action. CDs of speeches delivered in the meeting should be prepared. Daily report on the action taken against violation of code of conduct in their respective should be sent.
