Man chops off his wife’s fingers over refusal to join prostitution racket

BHOPAL: A 30-year-old man chopped off his wife’s fingers allegedly after she refused to join a prostitution racket. The incident took place at Damoh district in Madhya Pradeshon on Thursday night.

Accused Pappu Patel held his wife’s hand and chopped off three fingers with an axe, said police. He also threw the fingers to avoid a reconstructive surgery. Patel was arrested on Friday. The victim was referred to district hospital.

Superintendent of police (SP) AK Pandey confirmed that she lost three fingers in the attack. “We have arrested her husband under different sections including attempt to murder. Initially we suspect that there was a family feud,” he said. Pandey refused to reveal more details citing matter was under investigations.

Local police however said that the accused wanted to push his wife into prostitution. On Wednesday he asked her to go with an unidentified man. When she refused, he attacked her.
