Union Tourism Minister Chiranjeevi asks other state to follow Madhya Pradesh’ footstep

BHOPAL: Union Tourism Minster K Chiranjeevi has said that Madhya Pradesh is a pioneer state in tourism sector which has achieved new dimensions in the sector. Madhya Pradesh has carved out its distinct identity in tourism sector through a number of innovations. Other states should follow footsteps of Madhya Pradesh in promoting tourism.

Chiranjeevi was addressing Tourism Ministers’ conference in New Delhi on Thursday. The Union Tourism Minister lavished fulsome praise on Madhya Pradesh for its various decisions.

Madhya Pradesh’s Minister of State for Tourism Brijendra Pratap Singh said that of the 250 tourism projects of Union Tourism Ministry, 52 have been sanctioned and completed. Besides, Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country where funds released up to year 2011-12 have been fully utilised for promoting tourism.

Singh urged Tourism Ministry and various organisations connected with tourism to hold the first Central Sector tourism conference in Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh’s Principal Secretary Tourism BP Singh and State Tourism Development Corporation’s senior officers were also present on the occasion.

Singh informed about various initiatives taken for tourists’ security in the state. He informed that tourism police has been deployed at tourist places like Sanchi, Khajuraho and Orchha. Superintendents of police have been nominated as member of District Tourism Council. Tourist helpline, women’s helpdesk and tourism website have been launched.

Eight monuments at 6 tourist destinations in Madhya Pradesh identified by the Union Government including Khajuraho, Sanchi, Bhimbethka, Gwalior, Bagh and Mandu have been entrusted to various private companies under CSR for maintenance. Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department has started single window clearance scheme under supervision of TRIFAC to issue licenses for hotels. It will accord sanction to various investors, he added.
