13th Finance Commission sanctions Rs 180 cr for tourism development in Madhya Pradesh
BHOPAL: The 13th Finance Commission has
sanctioned assistance worth Rs 180 crore for development of various tourism
destinations in Madhya Pradesh. This amount has been sanctioned for 4 years
from years 2011-12 to 2014-15.
These funds will be used for infrastructure
development at religious tourism places, development of rural and heritage
tourism, promotion of wildlife and eco-tourism activities, development of water
reservoirs and adventure sports destination, development of Jain and Buddhist
corridors in the state and development of new tourist destinations, fairs and
festivals, air services etc.
Of these funds, Rs.30 core will be spent
on development of tourist facilities under MICE tourism, Rs 5 croe on
development of Buddhist corridor in western Madhya Pradesh, Rs10 crore on Jain
corridor, Rs10 crore on heritage hotels and Rs 50 crore will be spent on
providing eco and adventure tourism facilities to tourists.
Similarly, Rs 15 crore will be spent on
expansion and upgradation of existing tourism facilities, Rs 25 crore on
improvement of approach and internal roads, Rs 5 crore for signages on National
Highways and cities, Rs 2 crore on information technology, Rs 2.50 crore each
on statistics cell and fairs & festivals, Rs 4 crore on development of air services
